Welcome to the wonderful world of sewing! Have you been curious about sewing and how to make your own clothing? Let us introduce you to the sewing basics and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a ME-MADE master!

In this beginner class, we will cover the essentials to set you up for a successful sewing journey. Get these basics under your belt and before you know it you’ll be making the pants that belt is holding up!

This is a technical workshop for true beginners and people who have not sewn for a very long time and need a re-introduction to basic skills. It will provide you with lots of knowledge and samples to take home and have as a reference!

Length: 2.5 Hours

Cost: $65.00+gst per person

  • Parts of the sewing machine
  • Threading the machine and bobbin
  • Cutting Fabric
  • Machine control
  • Adjusting tension
  • Straight stitching
  • Zig-zag stitching
  • Edge stitching

Make on your own machine or if you’re still in the market for one make use of the machines here at RICK RACK (free of charge!). Either way, you'll learn a lot of great new skills! If you're bringing your machine it must be in good working order and be able to do a zig-zag stitch.

CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY

Registrations can be canceled up to 48 hours after booking a class for a full refund. Cancellations made after 48 hours are eligible for a credit or transfer.  Cancellations made within 1 week of the class do not qualify for credit or transfer. 

Sick Policy: If you are unable to attend your registered class due to illness or other unforeseen health issues, we will rebook you once for any available dates. If there is no availability or you are unable to attend the available date(s), we will issue you a 50% credit for rebooking. You must contact RICK RACK before your class, and respond within a week after we contact you with options to qualify for the sick policy.

SKILL LEVELS

We want to set you up to have the best time possible in all our class, whether you are brand new to sewing or just looking to upgrade your skill set. If you aren't sure if a class is the right level for you check out our handy breakdown for our 4 levels of classes:

  • 1/4 - You are brand new to the world of sewing, no previous experience is needed, we'll teach you from scratch!
  • 2/4 - You have sewn a bit, you know how to thread your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, and you have a few projects completed
  • 3/4 - You have sewn, you know how to thread and use your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, know how to rotary cut, read a pattern, and you have 5+ individual garment projects completed
  • 4/4 - You have sewn for a while now, you know how to thread and use your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, used a serger, read a pattern and you have 10+ individual garment projects completed

SOLD IN FULL METERS - fabric, elastic, and other products that are cut to measure are available only in full meters for online orders. Its a Shopify thing and as soon as we find an awesome workaround you can count on us to make that magic happen. Want to put in a request for a 0.5 meter cut? Find the form HERE! Due to order volume, 0.5m requests will NOT be processed during online sales.

Buying fabric? Measure twice so that we can cut once! Review your pattern. Check the unit of measure (we go by meters). Add a bit of length to factor in shrinkage during prewashing. 

Buying patterns? Pattern size ranges can vary depending on the pattern, designer, and style. Review the pattern closely before purchase and check your own measurements against the pattern specifications. All patterns and printed materials (books, magazines, etc.) are final sale.

Picking colours? RICK RACK does our best to accurately represent all products and colours but colours may appear different between device screens. Please be aware that any cut fabric cannot be returned or exchanged, so if you're not sure about colour drop us a line or send us an email!
