Class & Studio Policies
Once you book a class with RICK RACK, refunds* will only be issued up to 48 hours (2 days) from the time of purchase. This policy does not apply if you book within 1 week of the class start time. Refunds will be issued to the payment method used for the booking.
After 48 hours from booking and until 1 week before your class, you have options to reschedule for a future class or receive a credit (i.e. if your class start on Saturday at 10:30 am, you must call or email us before 10:30 am the Saturday before your class). If you have to reschedule a second time, we reserve the right to automatically issue you a credit for the class.
Cancellations made within 1 week of the class are not eligible for a credit or rescheduling. We are unable to issue a credit or reschedule as we are subject to a minimum enrolment in order to run our classes. You are welcome to pass your spot along to a friend who meets the class requirements - for classes with included fabric they will be given the fabric that you selected at registration. We understand issues come up and life gets in the way. Please understand our limitations as a small business and know we can't make exceptions to our policy.
In the event that RICK RACK is not able to run the class due to low enrollment, we will provide a minimum of 48 hours notice, or due to unforeseen circumstances (instructor is ill, acts of nature, etc…), we will contact you as soon as possible about the situation, and we will offer the following choices:
- Move you to a different date
- Issue a store credit
- Issue a full refund
If you are unable to attend after the cancellation deadline, for any reason, you are welcome to find someone to attend in your place. Please let us know prior to the class if you are sending someone in your stead.
Guest Workshops - Guest workshops that are a single date are only eligible for a credit. If there is a second date transfers between the class dates will be assessed on a case by case basis. All other Cancellation Policy stipulations apply.
*Refunds made in the 48 hour window may be subject to a 5% restocking fee
The first 10 minutes of class are super, duper important! For this reason, we ask that you arrive on time (aim for about 5 minutes early!) If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be able to join the class.
Our studio space is located on the main floor with no stairs, however, the main entrance is narrow; our classes are also very physical and require participants to switch between standing and sitting regularly. Please let us know ahead of time if there are any accommodations you require - we want to make sure you feel safe and comfortable during your class! Service dogs and other aids are welcome in class.
We also recommend comfortable footwear for all participants, as there is fair amount of standing during classes.
Sewists must be at least 16 years old to take a class at RICK RACK. We are unable to make exceptions to this, even if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
We want to set you up to have the best time possible in all our class, whether you are brand new to sewing or just looking to upgrade your skill set. If you aren't sure if a class is the right level for you check out our handy breakdown for our 4 levels of classes:
- 1/4 - You are brand new to the world of sewing, no previous experience is needed, we'll teach you from scratch!
- 2/4 - You have sewn a bit, you know how to thread your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, and you have a few projects completed
- 3/4 - You have sewn, you know how to thread and use your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, know how to rotary cut, read a pattern, and you have 5+ individual garment projects completed
- 4/4 - You have sewn for a while now, you know how to thread and use your machine, straight and zig zag stitch, used a serger, read a pattern and you have 10+ individual garment projects completed
- Serging 3/4 - You know how to thread your serger, adjust tension, and have used it for woven projects
- Drafting 1/4 - You are brand new to drafting, no previous experience is needed, we'll teach you from scratch!
If you do not feel confident about the skills a class requires, please email us at hello@rickracktextiles.com and we can recommend a class to help you build your confidence!
Open Studio is a studio space rental that runs on select dates and times. There is no instructor or staff member present, and while the retail team is happy to pop in and answer quick questions this is not guaranteed depending on how busy the store is.
RICK RACK supplies all Open Studio participants with a table, an iron, and a cutting mat. All other supplies and equipment must be brought with you or purchased at the store. Use of equipment on the silver shelves and peg board may result in being asked to leave Open Studio and not being able to book future dates. If you are unsure about something please ask the retail team. At this time we do not have a machine rental program.
To ensure an environment that is comfortable for everyone, please do not play music in the studio without the use of headphones. Open Studio runs during store hours and we will have music playing.
Closed drink containers (water bottles, travel mugs with lids, etc...) are permitted in the studio, as well as contained snacks. Please make sure to clean up after yourself.
RICK RACK is committed to providing our staff, students, and instructors with a safe learning environment. If you are unable to comply with our policies, you will be asked to leave without a refund.
- Please DO NOT attend class if you are unwell.
- Masks are voluntary in class and on the retail floor, please be respectful or other choices regarding masks.
- Abuse will not be tolerated. Please be kind to the staff and instructors - we are all doing our best to keep you safe!
- Hand sanitizer will be provided.
- Please be respectful and listen to all safety instructions for the handling and use of machines, scissors, and irons.
RICK RACK requires our team members to follow the same health & safety rules, so you can feel safe and secure during your class.
My friend and I want to register together for a class. Are we able to do that online?
Yes! Just make sure that you both fill out the class form so we have all the correct info for both of you. To do that just click the drop down asking how many people you're registering for and a second form will appear. If there isn't a drop down for how many people then fill out the form and add the class to the cart, then go back to the class page and repeat the process. After that you can checkout all together. Make sure that you have paid for the correct number of people and have filled out the form for the correct number of people - incorrect payment may result in your registration not being completed.
