One strong shape with two distinctly different finishes.

BOUND:

Designed for pre-quilted fabric or a thick blanket weight coating with a contrast-bound finish. Pockets squared off on one side and streamlined into the bound hem. The belt is a bias-covered rope utilising the finer bias fabric that compliments the already 3D form of this version. The outer sleeve binding is optional and has an option for a second tie at pocket height to wear the jacket without the belt.

FACED:

Designed for heavier-weight denim or canvas fabric and finished with full-facing and top stitching for a utilitarian edge. The facing can be cut in the main fabric or contrasted for a peekaboo contrast or to lighten the bulk for machine-friendly construction. The pockets are upside-down arches patched on and scaled for each size. The belt is made from the main fabric, which is narrow, flat, and understated.

Pattern Fantastique is a brand born from a passion for travel, art, and design. Founded by Nita-Jane McMahon, it has journeyed from Melbourne, Australia, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and now calls Fremantle, Australia, home once again. Embracing an eclectic and unconventional spirit, Pattern Fantastique creates fashion for makers and wearers alike — a space where you can wear what you love and love what you make.

Difficulty: Intermediate - Experienced

Size: 6-30

Suggested Fabric:

For the BOUND view-
Quilting - For pre-quilted or DIY quilted fabrics,  look for a stable feel to support the August curves. Cotton fill is preferable; very puffy polyester or slippery viscose fill may prove challenging to finish.
Coating-A blanket weight coating with a firm weave to hold good form. Melton is a classic style of wool fabric perfect for the August 350- 600 GSM.
Bias - A poplin-weight cotton is perfect. If you buy a pre-cut bias, the width should be 5 cm • 2”.
Extensive details on fabric choices are available in the instructions.

For the FACED View-
Denim, canvas, duck cloth or similar at a 300 gsm + weight. Suitable for outerwear jackets. To make the August easier to sew,  use a lighter fabric for the facings and avoid overly thick junctions some domestic machines might struggle with. This can be a cotton poplin or twill 120 - 180 gsm. Add a mid-weight interfacing to stabilise lighter looser facing fabrics.

SOLD IN FULL METERS - fabric, elastic, and other products that are cut to measure are available only in full meters for online orders. Its a Shopify thing and as soon as we find an awesome workaround you can count on us to make that magic happen. Want to put in a request for a 0.5 meter cut? Find the form HERE! Due to order volume, 0.5m requests will NOT be processed during online sales.

Buying fabric? Measure twice so that we can cut once! Review your pattern. Check the unit of measure (we go by meters). Add a bit of length to factor in shrinkage during prewashing.

Buying patterns? Pattern size ranges can vary depending on the pattern, designer, and style. Review the pattern closely before purchase and check your own measurements against the pattern specifications. All patterns and printed materials (books, magazines, etc.) are final sale.

Picking colours? RICK RACK does our best to accurately represent all products and colours but colours may appear different between device screens. Please be aware that any cut fabric cannot be returned or exchanged, so if you're not sure about colour drop us a line or send us an email!
